Hello Families,

At long last! We are happy to announce The King County Library System’s All-Ages Summer Reading Program is happening online this year from June 1-August 31. It kicked off on Tuesday, June 1. Rather than a slogan, we have a general theme of outdoors, camping, nature and wildlife. People of all ages can register online and track their reading using a service called Beanstack. When readers have completed 500 minutes, they've reached the halfway mark. The goal is to read for 1,000 minutes. More program details will be available on our website starting June 1st: https://kcls.org/summer/. Kids and families can earn virtual badges as they read and enter a drawing for a chance to win a gift card from an independent, local bookstore.

Our puppet promotional video can be found at 2021SRP Promo - YouTube

Each library will have 10 winners this summer. There will be 2 pre-school winners per branch and 8 all-ages winners per branch. Each gift certificate is worth $50 and can be redeemed at participating bookstores TBD. We will notify winners after we've drawn the winning names in September. We will also have extra supplies of paper activity sheets (preschool) and reading logs (all ages) at our local library branches. Check in with your local children’s librarian and management team for specific details on physical locations. Extra bookmarks will also be available. The bookmarks include the https://kcls.org/summer/ website, which will point them to online events, performances, activities, book recommendations, and more.

As you may already know, "research shows that children and teens retain their reading skills when they: choose their own reading materials and read for enjoyment. Summer is a critical time to keep reading and prevent reading loss when not in school."

Please let us know if you any questions.

Thanks for all your help in supporting the kids and reading!!!
